Lots of family members have been bugging me to join Facebook. I resisted for a long time, feeling too old and unhip to join. But yesterday they hit a critical mass. My brother and paternal cousins are there, as are my cousins-in-law. So now I am too. Friend me if you'd like! (If you don't remember my name it's on my GANBABB profile).

[personal profile] buzzy_bee gave me 1998.

I started off 1998 with a bang and got engaged at DH's family's cabin in Cloudcroft, NM. It was lovely and low-key, and startled me no end. In March I turned 21and my grandparents gave me a wonderful combination birthday/engagement present: a Kitchen Aid stand mixer. It may have seemed like an odd gift for a college junior, but it was just what I wanted. I may have a photo somewhere of it standing below the lofted bed in DH's dorm room.

In the summer of 1998 I worked at Denison Library; partly shifting the stacks and partly going through photos from special collections. It was a good summer. We lived in a 1 bedroom apartment that we would share with Drew's longtime roommate, John, when school started again.

That was the year I cooked my first Thanksgiving turkey. It fell apart when we tried to transfer it from the roasting pan to the cutting board! We ate around an elevated coffee table.

By the end of the fall semester I had defended my senior thesis, something about low-level depression in college students.

Ok,  "Social Networking for books" makes it sound like all my books are going to get their own MySpace pages or something. What I'm actually talking about is Good Reads. A friend just mentioned it this afternoon, and I have been sucked in. It's a listing/book review site, but what I like is that it covers all books you've read, not just "books I own". So it looks to be a great source for book recommendations. Right now my book rec's come from reading [personal profile] naomikritzer, NPR, and dumb luck, so I'm excited to have a source that's easily searchable.

The site uses a very familiar friends system that's primarily organized by email address. I'm jenn at bernat dot net.

Now go read! :)

I have very few drawing skills, but somehow this test thinks I might make  good cartoonist. :) Not sure why I'd want to be an addictions counselor either (but then it didn't ask about experiences). Interesting to note that my current job is suggestion #20. I'm intrigued by #28, Power Plant Operator. What are the qualifications for that anyway?

1. Go into the archives of your LJ.
2. Find your 42nd entry ever. Yes, this may require some counting and basic maths. Deal with it.
3. Link to that entry in a new entry. This is the meaning of your life.

Dinner was roast chicken, roasted potatoes, and spinach. With red wine. Sadly the chicken took a very long time to cook, so it wasn't as nice as it could have been.

Sounds pretty tasty! And wintery. Way too hot for today. Tonight after our sailing orientation DH, Jaime and I went to Ian's Pizza for dinner. Two very tasty vegetarian slices and a bottle of Honest Tea. Yum!
